Day 288: The rain came lately...

Day 288: ...and Tsukiji from another angle

The rain came today. Tuesday's clear day arrived with summer-like temperatures. Today plunged to winter temps and rain, very wet rain. The climate is all over the place (sceptics take note). The weather in Japan is just as much a topic as food.

Today though we had to go via the hospital where my friend is currently undergoing some treatment. The hospital is close to the famous Tsukiji fish markets, which have existed here for generations...Tokyo has grown up around it. The markets are quite the tourist spot with nearby streets filled with tourist buses. The government recently announced that the markets are going to be closed down and moved to a different part of Tokyo Bay. The land is going to be transformed into the international press centre for the Olympics, hosted in Tokyo in 2020.

Tsukiji markets from the 19th floor
We had a quick look through to pass the time but in some ways, the best pic of the markets was the view from the 19th floor of the hospital, not a view one often gets to see (nor really wants to have reason to see either...).

Oden, breakfast. Did I mention food?
Afterwards, we rewarded ourselves with lunch at a nearby restaurant. There is something about sushi and sashimi at a restaurant right next door to the markets that makes the others taste second-rate...

There's a coffee in there somewhere

Breakfast, lunch and dinner...I can see I'm going to be 'forced' to eat much more than I usually would.

Lunch (detail; yep, there was more)
Dinner

And just to welcome me back to Tokyo,
a news story about redbacks 'invading Tokyo
