Day 121, 1 May 2017: Turning in a tight spot...

Day 121: ...getting five days into two

A week in which there are more public holidays than work* days (*except for academics who seem to have work to do everyday...) seems odd. I come from the land of the long weekend of course, today being one such day at home, but when it comes to public holidays, Japan has more than Australia, hands down.

So Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are holidays this week, meaning no classes for me until Thursday next week. It does seem odd being in the office. But if I hadn't been there today, I'd have missed the elegant manoeuvres of not one but two of the regular ships going about their regular business...with a wayward midday storm thrown in for good measure.

An eerie light during the storm

Of course, the storm didn't stop little yella

Just when I thought it was heading out...

....straight out...

Turning right

and off to the sea...

it just spun right around again

and around

almost back to where it began

and started the process of berthing again

and parked

There didn't seem to be any room for this one

watching the anchor

very close to the port wall

sideways slide

and in it went

with a little help on the port

a tug on the ropes

one last tug

and in, a tight fit, but there

After all that, a little reflection on the water

It is almost as if everything was on fast forward today to get five days of work done in two.

I think we all need a break after that.
